Registration for Spring 2020 Hawai'i High School Saxophone Ensemble The Hawaii Saxophone Foundationwill hold auditions for the third annual Hawaii High School Saxophone Ensemble. Students will have the opportunity to work with Hawaii’s top saxophone music educators and professionals. Students will rehearse weekly in preparation for a concert with the University of Hawaii Saxophone Choir. Audition is December 15, 2019, 10am at Moanalua Middle School Band Room. Auditions are open to all high school saxophonists with a minimum of 2 years experience. (Middle school saxophonists are eligible to audition upon recommendation of their band director or private instructor). Audition material will consist of:
Tuition fee for members is $75 dollars. There is a $10 dollar non-refundable audition fee. Students accepted into the program will have this fee applied to the cost of tuition. Students must provide instruments for participation (privately owned or from schools). Students may be asked to double on other saxophones. Participants are required to attend weekly rehearsals in preparation for concert activities. Attendance is mandatory. Absences will be excused only for illness or family emergency. Missing 2 or more rehearsals will be grounds for expulsion. Arizona State University saxophone professor Christopher Creviston had an outstanding debut concert at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Orvis Auditorium on Monday, October 7, 2019. On Thursday, he held a masterclass at Punahou School, Montague Hall, and shared his insights on "Learning to Manipulate the Saxophone". It was a pleasure to have Mr. Creviston share his music and saxophone mastery with us! Mr. Creviston has performed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to the Apollo Theatre and Prince's Paisley Park. He is respected around the world as a saxophonist with the utmost control and artistry. As soloist and with the Capitol Quartet, he has been featured before some of the most respected ensembles in North America, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra, and the Indianapolis Symphony. He has held positions at the Crane School of Music, the University of Windsor, the University of Michigan, and is currently on faculty at Arizona State University. Creviston is President of the North American Saxophone Alliance and a Yamaha Artist. Howard Tamashiro is an Audiologist Specialist in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2000. His practice of over 25 years has covered a diverse array of experiences in audiology. He is certified by the American Academy of Audiology, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, and the American Speech & Hearing Association. Doctor Tamashiro discussed the topic of hearing protection and explain the long term care for hearing and options to protect hearing.

A native lot Lincoln, Nebraska, he has won or been a finalist in numerous state, national, and international competitions. In the spring of 2017, Nicholas was a featured soloist with the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra as winner of the T. Gordon Parks Concerto Competition. He has appeared as a guest artist and soloist with the Classical Saxophone Project, Omaha Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, and UNL Wind Ensemble, and performs frequently in regional theater productions as a woodwind artist. Nicholas May is an Adjunct instructor at Mid Plains Community College in McCook, Nebraska where he teaches applied clarinet and saxophone lessons. He received his M.M. from the University of Kansas, and his B.M. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has studied privately with clarinetist, Dr. Robert Walzel, saxophonists Harvey Pittel and Matt Otto, and Rebecca Fischer, former violinist of the Chiara String Quartet. Nicholas is a Silverstein Works Pro Team Artist. |

The Hawaii Saxophone Foundation is a non-profit organization created to raise the level of awareness and education of the saxophone in Hawaii. Plans to achieve this will be by commissioning new compositions, hosting clinicians for workshops and concerts, providing college scholarships and eventually providing instruments to schools in need.
