The Hawai’i High School Saxophone Ensemble was developed and created by the Hawai’i Saxophone Foundation in 2018.
Comprised of the most talented high school saxophonist from all of Oahu, HHSSE provides and opportunity for young saxophonists to perform along side the University of Hawai'i Saxophone Choir. In addition to making music with students from other schools, members of the HHSSE received numerous masterclasses from Director David Hirano and UH Saxophone Choir Director Todd Yukumoto covering valuable saxophone fundaments and techniques.
Registration for Spring 2023 Hawai'i High School Saxophone Ensemble
The Hawaii Saxophone Foundation will be holding auditions for the 2023 season of the Hawaii High School Saxophone Ensemble. Members will have the opportunity to work with Hawaii's top saxophone educators and performers. Students will rehearse weekly in preparation for a joint concert with the University of Hawaii Saxophone Choir on April 2, 2023.
Audition Date: January 8, 2023 (Sunday) Time: 10:00 am Location: Moanalua Middle School Band Room (K2) Tuition Fee: $75.00
All high school saxophonists with a minimum of 2 years experience are welcome to try out. (Middle school saxophonists are eligible upon recommendation of their band director or private instructor).
Audition materials will consist of: – Major scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats – Excerpts provided in the links below – Prepared solos pieces (optional)
Students are required to attend weekly rehearsals in preparation for concert activities. Attendance is mandatory. Absences will be excused for only illness or family emergency. Two (2) or more missed rehearsals will be grounds for expulsion.
This is the only saxophone ensemble of its kind in the State of Hawaii. Come be a part of this incredible musical organization.
