Blur is the first piece commissioned by the Hawaii Saxophone Foundation. Composed by UH Professor Thomas Osborne he describes his piece as a reflection between music and the visual arts. “Whether one is composing a new piece or taking a photograph, one must consider some of the same basic principles: proportion, color and form. Many of my favorite photographs using long exposures, photos in which the tail lights of a passing car may paint vivid red streaks across the frame.” Blur is a sonic attempt to recreate those effects through sweeping long tones across the texture like crisscrossing beams of color juxtaposed to undulating rhythms and sonorities. |
