Arcadia Retirement Residence Performance
Members of the UH Saxophone Choir and Hawaii High School Saxophone Choir performed a free concert at Arcadia Retirement Residence on May 25, 2024.
Audience members were thrilled to hear diverse styles of music and to hear the various types of saxophones. Many commented on the beautiful sonority of tones ranging from softs to the most powerful sounds.
Residents were greatly appreciative of the voluntary performance and asked us to return again soon!

University of Hawaii Saxophone Choir Concert 2024

This year's program is full of exciting music from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Bartok's Romanian Dances, and Sawano's T-KT from "Attack on Titan."
The UHSC will feature guest soloist Cayne Hiraoka from the HHSSE on the Concerto for Oboe by Alessandro Marcello.
Assisting the ensembles are Arex Ikehara (bass) and Stacey Tangonan (drum set).
Come join us for a full saxophone experience!
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door

Seniors: $10.00

UH Bands 100th Anniversary - 100 Saxes
Let's all make history together with The Hawaiʻi Saxophone Foundation and the UH Bands to celebrate their 100th Anniversary! Looking for 100 saxophonists to perform on Saturday, February 24 at 6pm, center court in the Stan Sheriff Stadium at the UH Men's Basketball game. Perform original arrangements of The Star Spangled Banner and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻi televised live on Spectrum Sports. Any and all ages, and experiences are welcome to play!
A fee of $30 is required for all participants which will get you an original T-shirt (attached) for this event, a mini bento between rehearsal and the performance, and a ticket for the game. Parking is available at the UH Music Department and at the UH Lab School
So get out that horn! (but leave your metal mouthpieces at home) and show your Rainbow spirit. Let's make this a Hawaiʻi record of the most saxophonists in one place!

2024 Hawaii High School Saxophone Ensemble Auditions
The Hawaii Saxophone Foundation will be holding auditions for the 2024 season of the Hawaii High School Saxophone Ensemble. Members will have the opportunity to work with Hawaii's top saxophone educators and performers. Students will rehearse weekly on Sundays in preparation for a joint concert with the University of Hawaii Saxophone Choir on March 24, 2024.
Audition Date: January 7, 2023 (Sunday)
Time: 10:00 am
Location: Kalani High School Band Room K-15
Tuition Fee: $75.00
All high school saxophonists with a minimum of 2 years experience are welcome to try out.
(Middle school saxophonists are eligible upon recommendation of their band director or private instructor).
Audition materials will consist of the following:
– Major scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats
– Excerpts provided in the links below
– Prepared solos pieces (optional)
– Voxman excerpt is to be played by everyone on their preferred saxophone of choice
Students are required to attend weekly rehearsals in preparation for concert activities.
Attendance is mandatory. Absences will be excused for only illness or family emergency.
Two (2) or more missed rehearsals will be grounds for expulsion.
Come be a part of this growing and exciting musical organization!

Highlights from the
2018 Hawai'i High School Saxophone Ensemble
|

Students from six high schools on Oahu committed to rehearsals on Sunday mornings with Director David Hirano. Mr. Hirano also taught numerous masterclasses covering reeds, embouchure, tongue position, air support, posture, and instrument carriage. They performed two pieces at the UH Saxophone Choir Concert on March 18, 2018 and performed the last piece together with the college and community members.
This newly created High School Saxophone Ensemble was developed and sponsored by the Hawai'i Saxophone Foundation. We are very grateful for the large participation and for a very successful ensemble. We hope to continue this program in the years to come! Congratulations to all these talented young saxophonists! |
